2025 AI Hackathon

Samsung Heavy Industries hosted the ``2025 AI Hackathon`` at its Geoje Shipyard in South Gyeongsang Province from December 4th to 5th, in collaboration with global AI platform company Dataiku.

The hackathon was designed to uncover ideas for AI-based solutions to real-world problems in the shipbuilding and marine industries and to strengthen employees` practical AI capabilities.

Around 20 teams participated, working on projects across a variety of topics, including quality control, safety, productivity improvement, and task automation.

Participants utilized Samsung Heavy Industries` actual process and operational data to develop and validate models based on data analysis, machine learning, and LLM (Large-Scale Language Model) and intensively explored their potential for field application.

Samsung Heavy Industries is utilizing this hackathon as a key step in its pilot program for the introduction of its global data AI platform, and plans to use it as an opportunity to accelerate the digital transformation of the shipbuilding and marine industries and the implementation of smart shipyards.

A company official said, ``AI is a key technology that will determine the competitiveness of the shipbuilding and marine industries in the future,`` and added, ``We will accelerate the implementation of a future shipyard that simultaneously improves safety, quality, and productivity by combining field-centered data and AI.``
