On December 20, Daedeok research center in Daejeon completed the construction of a solar power facility and announced that it is currently generating renewable energy by itself. Samsung Heavy Industries selected Daedeok research center, an eco-friendly and smart research hub, as an eco-minded pilot site and set a target to use 100% renewable energy by 2030 and realize netzero early by 2040.

Installed solar power generation capacity is 0.1MW and the capacity will be gradually expanded by reviewing the effectiveness through pilot tests.

On December 14, Samsung Heavy Industries held ESG workshop for members of 'Sungjo Association', a consultative body of excellent suppliers. This workshop was consisted of 4 sessions - introduction of global & domestic ESG trends, a discussion of ESG performance(Lessons & Learned), introduction of government support projects of small and medium-sized companies, discussion difficulties in ESG management.

Samsung Heavy Industries said "this workshop was an opportunity to spread ESG management throughout the supply chain, and it will select one or two specialized themes in 2024 and operate them more than once a half year for all members."

Global & domestic ESG evaluation agencies are raising their ratings and scores for Samsung Heavy Industries. It is believed that the company has been evaluated for establishing ESG governance and achieving improvement in all fields of evaluation including environmental, social and governance.

Two of the leading agencies in the domestic ESG evaluation raised Samsung Heavy Industries' ESG rating this year. Korea institute of Corporate Governance Sustainability(KCGS) raised ESG rating of Samsung Heavy Industries from B+ to A and Sustinvest also raised ESG rating from BB in the first half of the year to A in the second half of the year.

Global foreign ESG institutions are also improving their ESG ratings for Samsung Heavy Industries this year. MSCI raised its rating from CCC to B in June, and ISS(Institutional Shareholder Services) raised its rating from D+ to C- in August. Sustanalytics which evaluates a company's ESG risk, improved its rating from high risk to medium risk in Nov. DJSI raised its scores from 55 last year to 59 this year while maintaining 'Korea' grade.

Since the beginning of this year, Samsung Heavy Industries has hired a large number of foreign workers and has been implementing various support activities to help these foreign workers adapt well to Korea & the company.

Samsung Heavy Industries is operating the Global Help Desk(foreign support center) to support counseling to all foreign workers working at the company, and it also operates online counseling separately. SHI is also trying to resolve language barriers by operating an intensive Korean language curriculum and provides video education to adapt to Korean life such as Korean laws and living etiquette.

In addition, SHI provides education for cultural differences to the company's managers who manage foreign workers through professional instructors and is also actively working to resolve concerns about crime prevention among neighboring residents by operating a foreign voluntary patrol.

Samsung Heavy Industries won two gold medals and one bronze medal at the 2nd Abu Dhabi WorldSkills Asia competition which was held for 4 days from November 27.

The gold medal was won in the welding and industrial control fields, and the bronze medal in the refrigeration technology, and the electric control field was ranked fourth, allowing to promote SHI's technology to the world once again.

In recognition of this technology, six of SHI's coachs and members of national team demonstrated technical teaching by guiding Philippine and Azerbaijani members and conducting joint training.
