Implementation of LCA

Samsung Heavy Industries introduced LCA in July and announced that it quantitatively analyzed and evaluated the environmental impact of its products. LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) refers to a quantitative investigation of resources inputted throughout the product''s life cycle, ranging from raw material extraction to manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal, as well as a systematic evaluation of its environmental impact.

For approximately three months starting in April, Samsung Heavy Industries used the ISO 14040, 14044, and 14067 processes to categorize a 174,000㎥ LNG carrier into four stages: material supply, construction, operation, and disposal, identifying inputs and outputs and quantifying seven potential environmental impacts, including carbon footprint, water footprint, and ozone layer.

A representative for Samsung Heavy Industries stated that the company intends to collaborate with client to carry out LCA for other types of ships and build related systems, among other things, to improve the LCA system further.
