In 2023, Samsung Heavy Industries announced that it had carried out DfS in earnest. Design for Safety(DfS) refers to activities to eliminate, replace, or reduce fundamental risk factors by discovering all kinds of safety accidents that may occur during production work in advance, establishing reduction measures, and reflecting them in the design stage.

It was from 2021 that Samsung Heavy Industries introduced a design safety review. The DfS, first introduced in the construction industry, was not applied to the shipbuilding field at the time, but it was initially introduced as it sought a fundamental solution to the risk factors during production while carrying out the safety design theme task.

After establishing the DfS standards and work procedures for the first time in 2021, Samsung Heavy Industries implemented a people-centered safety design in all production processes by improving the management system establishment and activation plan from 2023, thereby realizing a preemptive accident prevention and efficient production system.
