Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced that it will further strengthen business cooperation with Kuok Group Singapore.
SHI announced on July 2 that it has signed a Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA) with Kuok (Singapore) Limited (KSL) to pursue future business opportunities across a wide range of areas, including shipbuilding and offshore businesses, maritime logistics and digital infrastructure.
The signing ceremony was attended by top executives, including Sung-an Choi, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries; Ean Kuok, Chairman of Kuok (Singapore) Limited; and Tan Thai Yong, CEO of PaxOcean.
KSL is a multinational conglomerate with operations across Asia, including Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia, spanning a broad range of businesses such as real estate, hospitality, shipping, and logistics.
KSL also owns Kuok Maritime Group (KMG), which brings together its maritime businesses across shipbuilding, offshore support, shipping, and maritime solutions. KMG’s businesses include PACC Offshore Services Holdings (POSH), a specialist in offshore support services; Pacific Carriers Limited (PCL), which operates a fleet of more than 40 vessels; and PaxOcean Group, which operates five shipyards across Singapore, China and Indonesia.
During the visit, KSL’s management toured the Geoje Shipyard’s block factories equipped with robotic automation technologies, as well as production facilities for LNG carriers and Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) facilities, gaining first-hand insight into Samsung Heavy Industries’ technological capabilities.
Under the agreement, SHI and KSL will explore comprehensive and long-term cooperation opportunities in LNG-related energy infrastructure projects, shipbuilding and conversion, offshore facility repair and module fabrication, maritime logistics support and digital infrastructure.
Earlier, SHI signed hull construction contracts with PaxOcean Group, part of KMG, for eight crude oil tankers, ordered by two global shipping companies in October 2024 and April 2025, respectively. These projects marked the beginning of broader global cooperation between SHI and KMG.
Under this win-win model, Samsung Heavy Industries is responsible for vessel design and the procurement of major equipment, while construction is carried out in Southeast Asia and other regions, enabling a flexible production system. Building on this production cooperation, the two companies plan to establish a long-term partnership.
“Samsung Heavy Industries and Kuok (Singapore) Limited will pursue long-term cooperation across various business areas, starting with our hull construction partnership with PaxOcean,” stated Sung-an Choi, Vice Chairman and CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries. “Samsung Heavy Industries will continue to create new opportunities with global players to secure future growth engines.”
