Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has announced a bold vision to lead the global shipbuilding and offshore industry as a global top tier company through design and production automation.
On the 29th, SHI hosted Auto2Vision at the Samsung Geoje Hotel, where it unveiled S-EDP (SHI-Engineering Data Platform), the first fully integrated engineering-automation platform in the shipbuilding and offshore sector, signaling a major transformation in its operational framework.

More than 80 distinguished guests attended Auto2Vision, including representatives from global energy majors PETRONAS and ENI, as well as executives from Vigor Marine (U.S.), National Assembly Member Il-joon Seo, and Ki-sik Min, Deputy Mayor of Geoje.
S-EDP enables digitalized information to be automatically stored and shared, providing Web-based simultaneous access, real-time internal and external collaboration, and automated creation of drawings, documents, and calculation reports.
These capabilities are expected to significantly shorten design cycles.
Furthermore, the platform transitions SHI’s workflow from a document- and drawing-centric approach to a data-driven paradigm, ensuring full consistency across data (1D), documents/drawings (2D), and 3D models, while advancing comprehensive work automation.
Based on S-EDP, SHI plans to more than double its design automation rate by 2030 and connect data across all phases including design, procurement, and production to accelerate digital transformation. This will lay the foundation for both smart offices and smart factories.
SHI will apply S-EDP across all domestic and overseas operations and pursue commercialization by offering the platform to global shipyards with which it has established partnerships.
“The smart shipyard that Samsung Heavy Industries envisions is an integrated model where Digital Transformation (DX), AI Transformation (AX), and Robotics Transformation (RX) — the so-called ‘3X’ — are organically connected through S-EDP,” emphasized Sung-an Choi, Vice Chairman and CEO of SHI. “S-EDP will play a pivotal role in our transition to a fully realized smart shipyard.”
