    - SHI introduced next-generation technology for the energy value chain at Gastech 2025.

On the 9th, Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) announced that it had received an Approval in Principle (AiP) for its `Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) powered 174,000CBM liquefied natural gas carrier` equipped with a Small Modular Reactor (SMR) at Gastech 2025, held from September 9 to 12 in Milan.

`MSR powered LNGC`, which is receiving technical certification from American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and Liberian flag state for the first time in the world, is powered by MSR, developed jointly by Samsung Heavy Industries and Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI).

The Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) technology utilizes a liquid mixture of molten salt (liquid reactor fuel) and coolant to improve stability and energy efficiency.

During the event, SHI will also obtain multiple technical certifications for various eco-friendly digital integration technologies, demonstrating its competitive edge in shipbuilding and offshore industry.

SHI will receive AiPs from DNV for its `80,000CBM liquefied hydrogen (LH₂) carrier` design, which has been optimized to reduce size and prevent heat influx, and from Lloyd’s Register (LR) for its `liquefied natural gas carrier equipped with wind-assisted propulsion`, on the 9th and 10th, respectively.

On the 9th and 10th, five global classification societies will grant approval for `Snap Wind Float`, SHI`s newly developed floating offshore wind substructure capable of supporting up to 15 MW wind turbines. The structure features a modular brace system inserted between columns, significantly reducing construction time for offshore wind installations.

Meanwhile, SHI will sign an agreement with Singapore-based shipping company Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) on the 10th to implement SHI`s DT-SLM (Ship Lifecycle Management solution), which uses digital twin technology to enable performance monitoring and provide predictive preservation of key ship equipment, further advancing SHI`s maritime digital solutions.

“During Gastech 2025, visitors can explore Samsung Heavy Industries` next-generation energy value chain technology, eco-friendly technology, and digital transition solutions all in one place,” said Hae-ki Jang, Chief Technology Officer (VP) of SHI. “We will continue to lead the global market with our distinctive advantages.”
