- SHI has established a safety and security control tower at its shipyard.
- SHI has launched an eye-catching smart safety management system that features AI security cameras, surveillance drones, and smart helmets.
On the 23rd, Samsung Heavy held a launching ceremony for its new `integrated control center` which is its control tower designed to comprehensively manage safety, security, and infrastructure at Geoje Shipyard.
The ceremony was attended by various stakeholders including Sung-an Choi, Vice Chairman and CEO of SHI; Won-young Choi, Head of SHI`s Labor Association; In-cheol Kim, Head of Tongyeong District Office of Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL); Su-jin Jeon, Head of Geoje Fire Station; Jong-deuk Jeong, Head of Busan Regional Office of Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency; and representatives from foreign shipowners.
Samsung Heavy`s new control center, located within Geoje Shipyard`s HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Hall, spans 198 square meters (60 pyeong). This control center consolidates control functions for safety and security which were operated separately and utilizes smart technologies to facilitate quick response in case of emergency, conduct thorough cause analyses, and develop an effective prevention system.
The control center can monitor all security cameras in the yard in real time. AI security cameras that can recognize ignition have been installed in fire-risk areas, such as the ship painting zone. Additionally, mobile security cameras were installed and operated in high-risk working areas, including offshore facility construction sites.
Also, by periodically operating surveillance drones, the center can regularly monitor abnormalities in major facilities within the shipyard. Also, a rapid and precise response system utilizing smart helmets has been established to verify accident information and connect with medical facilities in the event of a fire or various types of workplace accidents.
“Beyond merely monitoring security cameras, the integrated control center will serve as a highly valuable infrastructure, becoming the core of smart security,” said Sung-an Choi, Vice Chairman and CEO of SHI. “The center will be dedicated significantly to fostering a culture of zero accidents and incidents.”
